What is the NCyTE Industry Advisory Committee?
The NCyTE Industry Advisory Committee was established to provide guidance and support for NCyTE initiatives, to ensure relevance of those activities (cybersecurity curriculum, tools, resources, trainings, etc.) to the needs of the nation for cybersecurity education. The committee is made up, as much as possible, of an equal and diverse mix of employers (administrators/managers) and practitioners, and may also include non-voting (ad hoc) members. NCyTE staff and leadership may also serve on the Committee to provide support, information and guidance to the work of the committee members.
Role and purpose: What does the NCyTE Industry Advisory Committee do?
The primary purpose of this committee is to promote alignment and collaboration between NCyTE projects that work to expand and enhance cybersecurity educational programs at colleges, universities and high schools with the businesses and industries that will hire their graduates. Advisory committees historically have been a very effective means of helping the educational delivery system respond to the needs of a constantly changing labor market. This committee has three major roles:
- advise NCyTE on industry skill / knowledge requirements for employees to inform curriculum projects;
- review and provide input into NCyTE proposed or developed products and projects;
- provide support and advocacy for cybersecurity education and training.
Working cooperatively with NCyTE personnel and leadership, committee members provide input to strengthen and improve NCyTE projects. Since it is “advisory” by design, this committee does not have administrative, project or grant authority.
