Use this course to introduce methods of protecting critical infrastructure. The Asset 2course was designed specifically for college students with a basic understanding of network and computer security.

The original course was created in collaboration with George Mason University’s Center for Infrastructure Protection and Homeland Security, leveraging its graduate-level coursework to produce a beginning course suitable for undergraduate students with a basic understanding of network and computer security. NCyTE Center sponsored and published the course, making it available to instructors for their use under a Creative Commons license.

Course materials, which can be accessed and downloaded from the online course book, include:

  • 11 modules, with instructor notes
  • Suggested reading assignments, mainly from government documents in the public domain.
  • Hands-on activities, such as using a simulator to learn packet capture, setting up the Department of Homeland Security’s CSET risk assessment tool, and installing a digital certificate.
  • A series of team assignments that culminate in a final presentation.
  • 150 assessment questions - answer key available upon request.
