Orientation Workshop

Cybersecurity faculty are in demand across the nation! The Faculty Fellowship Program will introduce and prepare students for a career path of teaching cybersecurity in a community college setting.
Who should attend:
- College/university students in their final year of or recently graduated with a bachelor or master’s degree in cybersecurity from a regionally accredited college or university
Spread the word and encourage students that might be interested in teaching cybersecurity at the community college level to apply! This workshop is not for current cybersecurity college/university faculty.
About the Program:
The orientation workshop includes an introduction to 21st Century classroom methods and pedagogy. The workshop will be delivered virtually through Zoom and Canvas. Participants will be asked to complete Microsoft Learn modules and will complete the review questions and quizzes after each module. Content covered during this course will prepare you for the Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification exam.
This will be followed by a 7-day intensive bootcamp in July/August 2023* (schedule below), which includes two days of in-person instruction at Moraine Valley Community College and five days of virtual instruction for a total of 40 hours. Upon successful completion, participants will be placed at a participating community college as a teaching assistant, where they will contribute a minimum of 60 hours of service and lead at least one lesson. Collaborating with their host college supervisor, participants will co-create a flexible schedule and assignments that align with their strengths and goals.

Applicants will be notified by email if they have been selected.
Stipend:
Eligible participants will receive a stipend of up to $4,500 based on successful achievement of the following milestones over the course of the program.
- Complete orientation workshop and submit badge transcript/achievement certificate - $250
- Pass the Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification exam and submit evidence of certification - $250
- Complete the summer bootcamp 40 hours and participate in bootcamp activities - $1,000
- Travel per diem: up to $1,200 for two days hotel, meals, and airfare for non-local residents. Must complete a travel support agreement.
- Complete teaching assistance assignments – up to $1,800, participants are required to teach one lesson in a regular community college classroom and provide the required deliverables per a student teaching assistant agreement.
- Provide a current W9 tax form to the NCyTE Center
*Summer Bootcamp schedule:
- July 8, 2023 - Virtual kick-off (4-hours)
- July 12-13, 2023 - In-Person at Moraine Valley Community College (16-hours)
- July 15, 22, 29 & August 5, 12, 2023 - Virtual workshops (20-hours)
Facilitators:
Dr. John Sands, Co-PI of NCyTE and Director of the Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) and professor at Moraine Valley Community College in Chicago, and his team of expert instructors will lead the workshops.
